What is Dry Needling?

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is an effective manual treatment involving the use of monofilament needles inserted into specific triggerpoints of a given muscle. The insertion of the needle creates a physiological response that brings blood flow to the area and stimulates the central and peripheral nervous systems of the body. It then alters information pathways going to and from the involved area being needled. Dry needling is unlike any other form of manual treatment in that we can reach deeper layers and tissues than we could with other techniques like cupping, massage and/or scraping techniques.

While dry needling alone can clear up your symptoms, it is just a small part of our treatment approach when getting to the root cause of the patient’s pain and dysfunction. The most optimal progress and long term benefits are seen with what treatment looks like combined with needling. The exercise and loading of the muscle and surrounding tissue that was targeted is where the magic happens to get you back to pain free movement and your  goals!
